Workshop at the College of Law Explores Strengthening University Belonging and Countering Hate Speech
Under the patronage of the University President, Professor Dr. Ahmed Suleiman Hamad, the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit at the College of Law, University of Fallujah, organized a workshop entitled: “University Belonging and Countering Hate Speech.” The event was attended by a number of faculty and administrative staff, along with a group of college students.
The workshop addressed several key themes, most notably fostering a sense of responsibility and strengthening institutional belonging, considering the university as a nurturing environment for moderate thought and constructive dialogue. It also reviewed the legal and intellectual frameworks of hate speech and highlighted its negative impact on social cohesion.
Furthermore, the workshop shed light on the pivotal role of university students in confronting such phenomena by adhering to academic values, respecting diversity, and rejecting intolerance, thereby contributing to the creation of a safe and balanced academic environment.
In conclusion, the workshop emphasized the importance of promoting a culture of tolerance and coexistence, as well as reinforcing positive discourse within the university community. These efforts align with constitutional and legal principles and reflect the university’s vision of preparing graduates with strong academic competence and high legal and social awareness, enabling them to address negative phenomena and contribute effectively to society.
