Scientific Symposium at the College of Applied Sciences Discusses “Antibiotics and Bacterial Resistance: The Silent Pandemic
The Department of Biotechnology at the College of Applied Sciences, University of Fallujah, organized a specialized scientific symposium titled “Antibiotics and Bacterial Resistance: The Silent Pandemic”, focusing on the global health challenges posed by drug-resistant bacterial strains.
The symposium covered several key topics, most notably the worldwide challenge of bacterial resistance to antibiotics, the mechanisms through which bacteria evolve to withstand medical treatments, and the risks associated with the indiscriminate and excessive use of antibiotics without medical consultation.
Participants in the symposium warned about the danger of returning to the pre-antibiotic era, noting that minor infections could become life-threatening if the current trends continue.
The symposium also emphasized the importance of enhancing students’ awareness roles in serving the community and linking academic curricula to global health realities, thereby contributing to the preparation of a generation of specialists capable of addressing contemporary biological challenges.
