Renewable Energy Committee at the University of Fallujah Holds Its First Meeting and Approves a Phased Action Plan
In implementation of the directives of the President of the University of Fallujah, Professor Dr. Ahmed Suleiman Hamad, the Renewable Energy Committee held its first meeting on Monday, March 3, 2026, chaired by the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Nahla Naji Hilal, with all members in attendance.
The meeting commenced with a comprehensive review of the achievements of the previous committee, assessing the key outcomes attained and the challenges that affected workflow, in preparation for transitioning to the actual implementation phase according to a defined six-month timeline.
The committee also reviewed the mechanisms for accomplishing its tasks in accordance with its formation decree and identified the roles required from all relevant university units to facilitate its work, in a manner that enhances transparency, procedural efficiency, and addresses previous obstacles.
Committee members discussed several files related to the energy and clean energy sector and adopted the following recommendations:
◼️ Initiating the collection of energy-related data across all university sites, including the current reliance on solar energy or generators, the electrical load of each site, and available financial capacities.
◼️ Preparing a list of technical specifications for solar panels and supplier companies to ensure high quality and efficiency, as well as identifying available spaces within the university campus for renewable energy projects.
◼️ Forming subcommittees to implement projects and prepare feasibility studies to evaluate the technical and economic efficiency of existing systems.
◼️ Identifying available engineering specializations within the university related to the energy sector to utilize them in project implementation.
◼️ Enhancing energy efficiency through the implementation of thermal insulation in university buildings.
◼️ As part of energy rationalization efforts, recommending that all colleges and supporting administrative departments refrain from purchasing or supplying energy-inefficient materials, and emphasizing the adoption of high-efficiency lighting and equipment.
◼️ Inviting the National Initiative Team for Supporting Energy and Reducing Emissions to conduct specialized training courses in Energy Management Systems (ISO – Energy) within the university, with the first course designated for committee members before broader implementation.
◼️ Preparing an informational brochure on renewable energy and energy-efficient buildings.
During the meeting, the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Nahla Naji Hilal, emphasized the importance of presenting all possible pioneering ideas by committee members for discussion and feasibility assessment, in a way that strengthens the university’s orientation toward sustainability.
This meeting aligns with the University of Fallujah’s commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7 by expanding renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and developing infrastructure, thereby contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, minimizing pollution, protecting the environment, and promoting sustainable economic development.
